Here’s what players should focus on based on their graduation year:

Class of 2027

1. Create and Share Highlight Videos

Build your Fall/Winter highlight reel showcasing your skills and game IQ. Once it’s ready:

  • Share it with college programs you’re interested in.

  • Send follow-up emails to coaches wishing them luck as college ball kicks off—they’ll appreciate the gesture!

Note: College coaches are prioritizing their Spring seasons right now, so keep communications professional and concise.

2. Prepare for Tryouts

Tryouts are around the corner, and making your school team is non-negotiable. Here’s how to prepare:

  • Show up ready to compete, whether you’re a returning starter or not.

  • Focus on leadership and development; coaches notice players who elevate the team.

  • Prioritize school ball starting February 1st—it’s a key step in your progression.

3. Watch College Lacrosse

Gain a deeper understanding of the game at the collegiate level by watching live or streamed matches:

  • Explore games on ESPN+ or conference networks.

  • Pay attention to teams across various levels, not just the Top 10.

"Communication is key; have character and integrity through the process."

—Brooke Magnuson

Class of 2028

1. Reflect and Improve

Review your Fall tournament footage and focus on specific areas for growth. Write down:

  • 3 things you did well.

  • 3 areas for improvement.

2. Build Your College Worksheet

Begin organizing key details to prepare for recruitment:

  • Academic achievements.

  • Athletic stats and highlights.

  • Extracurricular activities.

This will serve as your foundation when you start contacting coaches.

3. Ask Questions About College

Start exploring your preferences by answering questions such as:

  • How far from home are you willing to go?

  • What do you want in a college experience?

  • Are you open to different levels of play (D1, D2, D3)?

"You don’t have to go to every camp under the sun. Be a kid, but also talk to others who’ve been through the recruiting process to learn which camps are worth it."

—Bill Olin (Clemson WLax)

Middle School Players

1. Focus on Skill Development

Recruiting might not be on your radar right now—and that’s a good thing. Use this time to:

  • Hone your stick skills.

  • Play lacrosse for the joy of the game.

  • Experiment with other sports to grow as an athlete.

"Don’t think about recruiting. Develop your game, enjoy being a kid, and grow as an athlete. That’s what will take you far."

—Gina Thomas (Cincy WLax)

2. Be an Athlete, Not Just a Player

Coaches value well-rounded athletes. Playing multiple sports helps you develop:

  • Versatility.

  • Teamwork skills.

  • Mental and physical resilience.

"I didn’t even pick up a stick until I was going into the 9th grade. Focus on being an athlete and having fun playing different sports."

—Gina Thomas (Cincy WLax)

3. Stay Inspired

Stay motivated by watching lacrosse at different levels. Whether it's local games or collegiate streams, observing the game will give you a better understanding of what it takes to excel.

"Prioritize skill development so you’re ready when it’s your time to get recruited."

—Bill Olin (Clemson WLax)

Recruiting can be an exciting but challenging process. No matter your class year, taking actionable steps now will ensure you’re ready when the time comes to showcase your skills. Remember, recruiting isn’t just about your talent—it’s about your attitude, leadership, and love for the game.
