August- Campus Visit Invitations, Offers & Playing Opportunities

Balancing Multiple Offers and Understanding what is being Presented to you by College Coaches with Sonia LaMonica, University of Virginia & Lex Venechanos, Northwestern University

Navigating the recruiting process once offers are being made is exciting yet challenging for high school athletes. It is essential to approach the decision-making process thoughtfully and with integrity. There are several key factors that go into making an athlete’s decision. Communicating with college coaches during this time can also be challenging, especially if you are balancing several offers from multiple schools. Athletes must be prepared to ask potentially difficult questions to learn more about the playing opportunities, team culture, coaching styles and academics, for example. And it is important to note, many athletes experience a lot of rejection during this time as well. It is crucial to remember that rejection is a common part of the journey and does not define an athlete’s abilities or potential. Once the athlete weighs all the factors important to them in finding their right fit, they can make an informed decision and verbally commit to the school of their choice. And importantly, learning how to respectfully communicate with all other coaches that the athlete may have been communicating with during their recruiting journey.
